In your 40’s, 50’s, or 60’s and feeling the aches and pains of age?
If you are over 40, live an active life, and are tired of aches and pains slowing you down, or maybe you have even given up on some of the activities you used to love and enjoy, this 5 minute read could help you get back to the things you loved in the prime of your life.
If you’re like me, something changed in my 40’s. Mentally I was still young and strong, but after a hard day skiing or a busy day of working in the yard, my body was sore. And getting out of bed the next day was even worse. The stiff joints and muscle soreness would take a couple of days to subside. The fact of the matter was I just didn’t recover like I used to.
Now I certainly wasn’t in peak physical condition. Working a regular desk job in front of a computer and having a busy life with kids and piano lessons and soccer practice, we weren’t always making the best food choices and it wasn’t always easy to prioritize exercise. But I am still on the go. During the winter I go skiing with the kids almost every week and in the summer, we hike and backpack and ride bikes and work in the yard and I hit the gym a few times each week. But my ability to recover from those activities just wasn’t what it used to be.
All of that changed for me in an unexpected way and I owe it all to a supplement called Go Condition PRIME. In the next few paragraphs, I’ll tell you a little bit about the product, the science behind it, but more importantly the results I have seen, and the impact PRIME has had on my 70-year-old father. You will need to decide for yourself if PRIME is worth trying for yourself, but if you feel some of the aches and pains that come with age, you owe it to yourself to at least hear me out.
Why I started taking PRIME
In 2019 Andy and I teamed up to create a sports nutrition business that we called Go Condition. We wanted Go Condition to reflect our personal values and we recognized that that there is a lot of “snake oil” in the supplement space, so we wanted our products to be backed by science (ie, not snake oil). We teamed up with some world class research scientists to help develop products with us. These guys conduct clinical trials on products and ingredients and publish their research in peer reviewed science journals. They know their stuff.
One of the first products we introduced was a patented flavonoid supplement called PRIME (although it had a different name initially). The researchers walked me through all of the science on the product and shared and explained multiple scientific journal articles on the product ingredients, how they work in the body, and ultimately what they do for our health.
The study I personally found most compelling was performed by the Danish Diet Cancer and Health Cohort. This study spanned 23 years and included over 56,000 participants and concluded that “a moderate habitual intake of flavonoids was inversely associated with all-cause, cardiovascular- and cancer-related mortality.” That quote is pulled directly from their research. And 23 years and 56,000 people is not fake data.
The research shows that flavonoids are good for you and you need to consume about 400 mg/day for optimal benefits. The research also shows that most Americans are consuming less than 10% of what the research indicates we need. So, I started taking PRIME every day.
Now, if you are like me, you probably have a couple of questions. First, what the heck is a flavonoid? I didn’t know either and I will get to that in a minute. Second, what does this have to do with aches and pains? Let me share my experience and my 70-year-old father’s experience.
How PRIME helps me live the life I want
But after my few difficult runs, my legs were usually shot and I was more or less done for the day. That’s when I’d take it easy and ski with whichever of my kids was the worst skier that day just so that I could keep up. And without exception, I really felt the soreness and stiffness the next morning when I tried to get out of bed!
But this time was different. I was PRIMED to perform.
I didn’t know anything would be different, so I still did my easy runs like normal. Then I hit the hard runs… and just kept going. In fact, I felt great all night. When I got home, the kids were in more pain than I was. Seeing me walk normally, my wife even accused me of just hanging out in the lodge and not skiing at all. And even better, the next morning when I woke up, I felt fine—no stiffness, no aches, no pains. It was awesome!
My dad’s unexpected surprise
While we were in the process of launching Go Condition, the pandemic hit. I knew that PRIME helped support our immune systems, so I sent a couple of bottles to my parents. My mom was still recovering from a surgery and my dad is still working in his construction business, so I figured this could help keep their immune systems healthy. What I didn’t expect was the phone call I got from my dad about 3 weeks later.
“Hey, you know that supplement you sent us?”
“So, just what the heck is in that stuff?”
Now my dad still does manual labor for his job. Even at 70, he is up and down ladders, running pipe overhead and in crawl spaces, operating hand drills and reciprocating saws, swinging picks and sledgehammers, and moving dirt with shovels. He explained that on days when his work is physically taxing—like breaking concrete or trenching for pipe runs—he comes home from work, sits down to rest, and his body will stiffen up on him. He says it becomes physically hard for him to get out of the chair and straighten his body after those hard days. My mom described it by saying when my dad does get up, he is hunched over like Quasimodo and hobbles like an old man.
“But he was calling because something unexpected had happened.”
He came home after spending several hours swinging a pick and moving dirt with a shovel—a day where the pains and stiffness would set in. He got home, was tired, and sat down to rest and cool off before dinner. But the lawn needed to be mowed, so he told my mom he was going to mow the lawn before dinner. And that was the surprise. My mom noticed it first
“Whoa, you’re going to mow the lawn? Weren’t you trenching today?”
“Yeah, but I’m feeling pretty good.”
Then, he got up, not like Quasimodo, but like normal. He stood straight up and walked like normal. My mom was shocked, and so was my dad. He really felt better. He mowed the lawn, finished up his night, and actually felt good the next morning too when he woke up. The only change he could point to was he had been taking PRIME. And that’s why he called.
“So, just what the heck is in that stuff?”
“Well whatever it is it works. I feel 10 years younger.”
And now you see why we call it PRIME. 10 years ago I was a lot closer to my PRIME. And PRIME helps my dad feel 10 years younger. PRIME does as its name implies … it primes our body to respond proactively to physical stress. It helps you feel more like you did in your prime.
So what exactly is a flavonoid?
On our website we have links to a lot of scientific journal articles about both PRIME and the ingredients in PRIME. I will answer the question, but I am going to do it in layman’s terms because that’s how I think about it. Flavonoids are healthful chemicals found in the skins of fruits and vegetables. In fact, many of the fruits and vegetables that nutritionists deem “superfoods” have received that designation, in part, because they are rich in flavonoids. Now if you eat a diet that is full of healthy fruits and vegetables, PRIME likely won’t do much for you because you will already be getting the flavonoids you need. But let’s be honest, most of us are not getting anywhere near the amount of fruits and vegetables we need. The research backs this up. In fact, when it comes to flavonoids research shows that most of us are only getting about 10% of what we need. And that is a big problem for our long-term health and our more immediate aches and pains.
How do flavonoids work?
Again, without getting too deep into the science, when we consume flavonoids they pass through the stomach and are digested in the gut. You’ve likely heard a lot about healthy gut bacteria—well flavonoids are food for that healthy bacteria. This is one of the reasons PRIME needs to be taken every day—for it to be digested properly you need a healthy gut and PRIME will help your gut stay healthy. The gut bacteria break the flavonoids down where they are then passed into the hepatic portal vein to the liver and then transported via the blood to the cells throughout your body.
When the body detects the flavonoids in the blood stream, a process known as hormesis is triggered.
Hormesis is a favorable biological response to low exposures to stressors in the body. Think of it this way, when we work our muscles and put them under stress, our body reacts and rebuilds making them stronger. Flavonoids are like burpees for your cells. When flavonoids are detected in low doses, our body responds by turning on systems to help fight oxidation and inflammation—and this helps decrease the aches and pains we feel.
So in a way, the flavonoids function almost like a vaccine would. Our body sees a stressor and “turns on” to protect against it. And this “turning on” wakes the body up so that it naturally and proactively fights against a host of potential issues in the body.
In my dad’s case, instead of the body needing “wake up” and recover from a day of breaking concrete, it was proactively recovering all along because it was already “awake.” That’s the impact flavonoids have on physical activity.
What makes PRIME unique?
Like I already said, if you are already eating a diet full of whole fruits and vegetable, you might not need PRIME. But if you are, you are the exception. And this is where PRIME can help.
Flavonoids are really hard for the body to digest in concentrated form. In fact, in concentrate form most flavonoids just pass through the digestive system. But that is where the patented flavonoid formula in PRIME is unique. PRIME has been clinically studied and optimized to maximize absorption of the flavonoids into the blood stream where they can benefit your cells. The flavonoid compound comes from the Wild Bilberry, Green Tea, and Quercetin and the Vitamin C, Fish Oil, and Natural Caffeine function to help the flavonoid be metabolized and passed into the blood stream.
PRIME is a powerful combination. In fact, the recommended daily dosage of PRIME gives you the same number of flavonoids as you would get in one cup of tea + one apple + one orange + 100g of blueberries + 100g of broccoli. So I can eat all of that every single day, or take PRIME, just to be sure, since we both know with our hectic lives, we might be ordering a
pizza for dinner tonight.
Is PRIME right for you?
We would always recommend that you discuss these decisions with your health care provider, and it is important to know that PRIME is not intended to treat, cure or prevent any diseases. Likewise, PRIME won’t overcome injuries like torn muscles, ligaments or tendons. But if you feel aches and pains after strenuous physical activity and those pains are slowing you down from the activities you used to love or the work you need to do, and you want an all-natural supplement that will work with your body, PRIME just may be the answer you are looking for. And at $39.95, it costs just a little over a dollar per day—less than a soda or a cup of coffee. And if you use the no obligation subscription option, it costs even less. The good news is you will know if PRIME is working for you in just a few weeks. Our recommendation is that you take PRIME for two to three weeks and then go do something physically challenging—something you would expect to make you sore the next day. And then see what happens. If you are like me or like my dad, or like countless others, PRIME will help you get back to the life and activities you love. $39.95 and 3 weeks to see if PRIME gets your prime back. What do you have to lose?
